Welcome back to a new semester! We hope you all had a very relaxing winter break :) Here are some of our best tips for getting organized again after the break in preparation for the start of this term!
One of our favourite tips is making a Google calendar or buying a physical agenda so that you can start writing down your new class schedule. Having a calendar is particularly handy as it helps greatly with keeping track of classes, deadlines, and other important dates in advance. This will help with managing your time to perfect the school-work-life balance! (for extra tips on Time Management see our 2nd blog post in November!) We recommend creating a calendar as soon as possible so that you can have this ready for the rest of the term! If you are a McMaster student, Mosaic also has a cool feature where you can import your class schedule directly to an Outlook calendar without manually having to enter in each date. This can help save a lot of time as well! Another great way to prepare for the new semester is by reading through all your course syllabuses and noting down any important dates and deadlines for upcoming midterms, quizzes, and assignments. Organizing these items on websites like Notion and Google Sheets will allow you to also add the corresponding weight of each assignment/test and organize the list according to their dates. Having a checklist with all your upcoming deadlines is a great way to stay on track throughout the semester as you can manage your time by preparing for your assignments early on and prevent forgetting anything important! As you’re looking through the course outlines, most professors will also list the required course materials or textbooks. Be sure to check online for free resources, textbooks, and other course materials as there’s tons of information posted online! This can help you save money and be organized. Another thing you can do to be organized is clear out your Google drive/OneDrive and make folders for each class. This way, you can start your semester off without any clutter and keep your assignments in one place. Lastly, ask around and join some class group chats. Many classes have Discord, Whatsapp, or Messenger chats where you can ask questions and meet people in your classes which can help alleviate some stress! We hope these tips will help you prepare for and conquer your next semester!
